This is our story
Utunzaji is the Swahili word for "we care". And indeed at Utunzaji (Pty) Ltd
we care about the destiny and safety of at least 26 million vulnerable people on the African continent, and millions more across the globe, following reliable estimates by authorities on the matter. So, whether this is due to natural disasters, political prosecution, displacement, terrorism, urban crime or other less immediate causes, Utunzaji's single-minded mission is to offer the SOS Coin as last resort for vulnerable individuals and groups facing immediate distress, prosecution, and danger. Observing the search and rescue efforts to save young Nigerian schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram, pondering about the disaster conditions left in the wake of cyclone Idai in Mozambique and, closer to home, thinking about hijacked motorists locked-up in their car boots, the SOS Coin is the brainchild of technology analyst Ferdie Lochner, and is meant to offer a robust and trustworthy medium of emergency communications to vulnerable people with no access to mobile communications.
The SOS coin is a coin-like microdevice containing a computer chip with battery
longevity and a satellite signal receiver. This enables the SOS Coin to emit a geo-location and allowing for the tracking of the person who wears it, whether somewhere in a city, or indeed somewhere in an isolated rural location, as well as having the ability to send and
receive cryptic message signals. Active tracking starts once the wearer of the SOS Coin activates it with the press of a single button on the device.
